There are two basic roof styles, the gabled roof, and the hipped roof. The gabled roof is what we commonly see before. To put it simply, gable roof has two sides, both meeting on top forming on horizontal line. It forms like a triangle, or like a tent-like structure. The second basic roof style is the hipped roof. A hipped roof has 4 sides. Each side of the wall has a slope. As time progressed, styles of new roofs are derived from these two basic roof styles. Styles of new roofs have surfaced as well namely: the flat roof, the gambrel roof, the mansard roof, and etcetera. Some people even fancy the castle roof designs or even combine different types of roofs in one house. Designs of new roofs are still continuing to flourish as people get more and more creative, and as more and more materials are now being used for roofing.

Materials Used for New Roofs

There are a lot of various materials now used on new roofs. Materials used for roofing include, wood, metal, concrete, rubber, ceramic, clay, slate, and even asphalt. One of the least common roofing materials used in new roofs is rubber. Rubber roofing is said to have a lot of advantages. They are easy to install, environment friendly, and energy efficient. So far, they say Slate roofing is the best material used in new roofs. Slate roofs are said to be strong, durable, fireproof, and it looks great as well. The most popular choices however, are either metal roofs, and asphalt shingles. Metal roofs offer a lot of advantages like fire resistance and durability. However, most people would say that asphalt shingles would look better. People would opt to choose asphalt shingles for their new roofs because it is affordable and durable at the same time.
